  • Junk Kouture
    Thu, Mar 21, 2013

Congratulation to our team of budding recycling designers who qualified for the regional finals of Junk Kouture. The three girls all in Leaving Cert Applied,  Alice Dimes, WIllow Howe and Marta Markowska produced a magnificent piece entitled "Amphitrite" which was inspired form the local environment of the sea. The outfit was made using seashells and carrigeen for the bodice and melted painted plastic cups for the scale like effect on the tail. Over 2000 entries were received nationwide with 80 qualifying for each region. A group of teachers and students travelled to Castlebar on 20th March to support the team where the standard of entries was exceptional. On this occasion we did not qualify to proceed to the national final but already plans are under way for next years entry.

Thank you to all the people who took the time to vote online for our entry.

  • Film Premier " Last Chance"
    Wed, Jul 4, 2012

There was great excitement on Tuesday 26th June as the centre held the premier of its latest film " Last Chance" in the Gaiety Cimema Complex. A large crowd of invited guests gathered at the cinema for the arrival of the actors and actresses by limo, for the red carpet event. On arrival the learners looking very sharp in their suits and dresses caused quite a stir on Wine Street, with many onlookers taking pictures and asking what was going on? Tracy Mc Garry assisted by Gemma Fox held a wine / mineral reception for all, before the crowd settled down for the much anticipated showing of the film. Ultan Mulvihill thanked all involved, including David Moriarty camera man, editor and music composer, Maggie Wade Drama Coach, all the learners and staff for their co-operation, Co. Sligo VEC for funding the project, and the various people who allowed Youthreach to film on their premises. The film itself ran for over an hour and impressed everybody present, as it was greeted with a huge applause, and cheering at the end. The group then moved to the Glasshouse hotel for a reception, of food and music. The whole event was a great success, with excellent behaviour, and a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all.
